A little bit of Malarkey on St Patrick’s Day
On one day each year we makeover, paint our faces wear funny hats and indiscreetly relax completely. March is what we do on March seventeen to reaffirm our pride in being Irish or show at least that we are with them for a single day no matter what our race or creed. In our small town we march, or stand around laugh with smiling eyes play the native sport of Malarkey—making acid comments beneath our breath or in public while we raise our hands and wave politely at those who pass us by—recalling incidents and memories in faces we have not seen for years.
