The still frame

Along the track

No idea how many movies I have made. Thousands, probably. Of omnivarious lengths and subjects in the shape of documentaries and current affairs. There were many good moments, moving and joyful. I love documentaries. Always have, always will. Sad thing is there are not many good documentaries made for television these days. Television, in its downward spiral, cannot afford the art when studios can be filled with instant comment and opinion cheaply. Presenters are paid more than their worth. Audiences are migrating to the intenet and so are the commercials.

Digital

So, the still frame now dominates my life along with the written word. Cost is at the heart of this, too. Compared to a movie crew, a  digital camera is a cheap reproduction unit which needs only one operator- yours truly – and Photoshop with Lightroom. What appeals so much about a photograph is the information it renders, of time and place and subject matter. You can print it off, pick it up, put on the net, show a friend, stick in an album.
